Every conversation needs a common starting point. Unless you are willing to hear what got me to this point, you won't understand where I am or who I am. That failure to understand me means we have no common point of departure. It is as if you said we should make a trip together, but you are at the airport and I am at the train station and we've not discussed where we are going.
